Believe it or not, this entire blog takes you to an article I wrote years ago. I rediscovered it while I was updating my LinkedIn profile. I thought it would be cool if you traveled with me to when I was raising my first set of children. My bio kids were almost exclusively home educated, so I wrote the article for Homeschooling Today.

I was in no position to be telling anyone what to do.

The link is at the bottom of this page, but I’ll tell you what I’ve learned since then. If you didn’t know it yet, life can sometimes move in cycles. This means that the struggles from the past often revisit our lives. I went through those struggles several times, and I’m still nothing like the woman I’d like to be.

You see, I was pretty much a hoarder back then. I’d like to give you a watered-down side of the story, but I really wasn’t neat. I collected stuff I would never use. Things got dusty, dirty, and eventually needed to be trashed. Roaches came and went, and came back again. I tried very hard to improve my home, but in general, it was pretty bad. I lived in constant fear of being found out by people who might try to shut down our amazing adventure in homeschooling.

Daring to homeschool in my condition was crazy!

Homeschooling for a person like this made no sense. I have no other explanation but that I felt called to it, and honestly, I loved it. Being with my kids was great. Moreover, exploring stories from earlier centuries, and teaching time-honored traditions like cookie baking and Bible reading were my joy. I have so very many happy memories of those times. If I could jump back in time for a few moments of basking in the joy of having all three of my little people beside me while we read a great book, I can’t imagine too many happier memories that I would choose to relive.

So, take a quick trip with me to that period of time. Also, the writing is pretty cool.
