Free yourself of the mental block:

Sometimes, good enough is good enough. You see, in my life, I’ve spent a lot of time feeling entitled. I deserve to have everything in my life go right. And I deserve to have nothing broken. I deserve to live “like everyone else.”

But while not everything in my life is a struggle, there are lots of little things that are not right. Like this door, for instance. It opens by itself randomly. I was beginning to get really annoyed about it.

An Easy Fix Was All It Took

I worried. Honestly, a mouse could get in and ruin my papers, books, and project tools. I was tired of dealing with that swinging door, and above all, I had finally gotten tired of whining about it. It was time for action, but there wasn’t time to make the permanent fix. I placed a block over the entrance when I’m outside the room. It did the job. Problem solved, for now.

An outbuilding with a cinderblock holding the door closed.

Not everything has to have a repair. Often, leaving it alone and moving on gives you the mental space to finally discover the permanent fix for a price you’ll appreciate paying. Until then, it’s okay to let some things slide. Yes, we want a life of excellence, but we also want our sanity.

An Exception That Proves the Rule

There are nonnegotiable issues. For instance, we don’t compromise on our personal safety. But there are also just regular things that can be kept the way they are. For us, it was this shed where we stored books and other less steal-able items. It wasn’t a big enough problem to warrant so much concern.

What’s Bugging You Today?

Today, place your own block somewhere. Make a good enough fix, and let it go, just for now. Because your peace of mind is important. More important than the perfection that you think you owe yourself.

Check out my other blogs, and maybe my YouTube channel. There’s one video in particular that stands out to me today because we’re talking about items not getting fixed. How about one that talks about accepting correction?
