God Has Got You!

Look at these figurines. This creator’s eye for detail is exceptional. When I took a moment to really examine them, I was amazed at how there is a picture of each character’s purpose drawn onto the figurine’s own body. I loved that! Each individual piece bears the mark of its life’s story. Now, human, real-life people have a creator, as well, and His eye for detail is incredible, too.

Lately, I’ve been reading through the Bible on the Bible App. I’m using a chronological Bible reading plan I found in there. Well, anyway, I got to a part where God describes the exact design of the ark of the covenant and even the curtains of the tabernacle. If you get bored by that kind of thing, I’d like you to try again. You’ll discover that God cares about even the fringes of the robes that the priests wear, and he even specifically calls by name the people that he chooses to work on the task. Now, this made me wonder what anyone might have said if I had been named as one of the workers on that list.

As I thought of it, and as I imagined myself stepping forward out of the crowd because God himself had named me for a specific task in the design of his temple, I didn’t find myself full of confidence that everyone around me would cheer. You see, I realized that I’m probably not everyone’s first choice.

While I am talented, smart, and I tend to have a knack for problem solving, I am also messy, awkward, inconsistent, and I lack a conversational filter (and a conversational pause button). Therefore, if I had been called by name, maybe someone might have said, “Stephanie? What? That lady? Seriously?!! I could do the job better.” I would probably feel ashamed for a moment, but then, I’d remember that my God is a detail-oriented leader.

Pause for a moment to consider that: Our God is detail-oriented. Listen, that’s good news! The God who cares enough to describe three different colored pomegranates to be embroidered on the priest’s robe is the same God who made you. If he left something out, it’s not because he didn’t notice. It’s because you’ll be okay without it right now. Trust him. He’s got you. And you’ve got this.

POMEGRANATES: Exodus 28:33Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.

CURTAINS: Exodus 26:6 Then make fifty gold clasps and use them to fasten the curtains together so that the tabernacle is a unit.

THE WORKERS CALLED BY NAME: Exodus 31:1-5 The Lord spoke to Moses, “See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with a divine spirit, with ability, intelligence, and knowledge, and every kind of skill, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every kind of craft.”

PS…Hey, it’s me again, Stephanie, not God. Okay, so I’ve got a friend who’s talented like this. He can build just about anything. When I watch him, I realize that physically talented people make me tired just watching them work. But boy do I admire them! My dream is to one day have as much talent and tireless enthusiasm for manual work that they do. But so far, it’s a hope deferred.

I’ll be okay, though. I’m still a part of His plans, and I’m accomplishing the purpose that He gave me. God has got me, and remember, He’s got you, too.
